Devolution Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri now wants the Sarah Serem-led Salaries and Remuneration Commission to further slash the salaries of State officers to ensure more funds for development.
According to Kiunjuri, the move will greatly lower the public wage bill thus benefiting Kenyans.“Kenyans are saying more funds should be put into development. President Uhuru Kenyatta has supported the move. I also welcome it and ask the commission to slash it (pay) further,” said Kiunjuri in Kwale County on Wednesday.“They said the government was loaded with a huge wage bill, which resulted in less development for the common mwananchi. I’m very happy for what the SRC has done because we must have more money for development,” he added, as quoted by The Star.Kiunjuri made the remarks when he accompanied Kwale Governor Salim Mvurya , Women Representative Zainab Chidzuga, Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria and former Kipipiri MP Amos Kimunya to drum up support for Jubilee Party. The leaders also lauded the commission for its bold move.
