Here are a few tips that will ensure you wake up with great hair.

Sleeping with a satin bonnet prevents dry hair.

Invest in a satin or silk bonnet or scarf to cover your hair at night as it protects the hair from rubbing and holds the hair firmly in place unlike sleeping on a cotton pillow case which will absorb the moisture and dry out your hair. It reduces frizz and fray keeping your hair in perfect condition.

Avoid elastic bands

Sometimes your hair my come up to your face especially when the night is long and you keep on tossing and turning, but instead of using an elastic band to keep your hair in place, do a braid at the top or use a soft cloth- bandanna. Elastic bands will only put undue stress on the hair shaft and roots.

Brush out your hair

Always try to brush your hair out before hitting the sack. By using a wide tooth comb, brush your hair from the root to tip for a few minutes. The strokes help in moving your scalp’s natural oils through your hair and to detangle the ends. As for short hair invest in a detangling spray for removing any tangles and snag before your shower or shampoo your hair.

Wrap it

Want a sleek, straight hair in the morning? Then wrap your hair up. Brush your hair round your head until you achieve an oval up do. Use hair pinsto keep it in place and viola, put on a head scarf and have a beautiful night sleep.

Oil it

Apply a small amount of hair oil to your hair before you go to bed. Olive or mineral oil is greatly recommended. Wrap your hair in a silk scarf to avoid rubbing the hair on the bed which will absorb all the oil and make it look messy.

Pat softly to dry

We usually use excess vigor and will roughly rub the hair to dry it. This is not advisable as wet hair is more susceptible to damage since it tangles on the towel rather, use soft strokes and pats to dry your hair. Keep off blow driers as this usually dries out the scalp and hair.
