Kenya Power has issued a stern warning to its contractors who do not finish their projects on time saying they will be surcharged.
KP Coast Regional Manager Hezekiah Mwalwala said Kenya Power has put in place tough measures to ensure contractors complete their work in good time.
Speaking during a forum for Kenya Power Contractors in Mombasa, Mr Mwalwala said contractors who do not complete their work within reasonable or the set time will be surcharged while repeat offenders will be blacklisted.
He said most of the delays experienced in restoring power supply is caused by the contractors who are slow in completing their work.
Mr Mwalwala urged contractors to stick to high quality standards in execution of any construction or maintenance works.
“Sometimes clients complain of slow response to matters raised or delay in restoring of power, but they do not know that it is the people we contract that cause the delay,” Mwalwala.
“In future, the firm will engage with contractors based on their ability to adhere to safety standards and timely delivery of services among other things.”
Kenya Power Manager in charge of safety, health and environment John Guda who was also present during the forum warned contractors against compromising standards and quality saying they risk the safety of the public.
“Contractors who do not complete their projects within the given timeline risk being surcharged for the extra days they take to complete their work,” said Mr Guda.
Contractors were urged to adhere to the new set of safety standards or risk being blacklisted by the company.
