Shofco FC won where Kenya Premier League Champions failed to triumph, after beating Hull City FC in a nine-a-side football friendly on Tuesday.
The match, which was played on Tuesday morning at the Undugu Grounds in Nairobi, came a day after Hull won 4-3 on penalties against Gor Mahia.
Shofco’s goals were scored by Nicholas Dendwa and Kevin Ntonya in the second half of the entertaining match, with the slum boys dominating the proceedings.
Shofco’s home-ground in the heart of Kibera slums played host to the match, and the dusty ground proved a major concern for the visitors, who could not adapt to the conditions.
Hull had some of their best players present in the team, which was led by Kevin Stuart and Fraizer Campbell.
“We got exposure and experience from the game. We have been inspired and motivated,” said goalscorer Ntonya.
Shofco captain, Felix Onyango, said playing and interacting with the Hull contingent made them think global.
“Winning this contest is a true manifesto that local clubs can make it in continental and world football. It’s not where you come from but where you are going that matters,” Onyango underscored.
Clubs participating in different tourneys from the slum benefited after they got different playing gears.
