Gor Mahia defender Mike Simiyu has officially signed for Mathare United on a deal to last one and half years.

This is after he passed the trials conducted by head coach Francis Kimanzi.

"We are delighted to announce the signing of Mike Simiyu on a one-and-half-year deal from Kenyan Premier League (KPL) champions Gor Mahia. The diminutive defender will provide options beyond Kenyan Under 20 international David "Messi" Owino at left back," the Slum Boys said in a statement.

Simiyu has been training with the side in the last weeks.

"Simiyu has been training with us for some time now but we are yet to decide whether or not he will be part of the team. We need strengthening in certain areas and we will have to be quick since this year the preseason period is a short one," the club had said earlier.

The left-back has previously played for Bandari, Western Stima, SoNy Sugar and Muhoroni Youth.
