A slum-based primary School in Nakuru has benefited from Sh1million donated by a Non Governmental Organisation towards building of classrooms and other physical structures.
Junior Achievement Kenya director Millicent Ngumbiri while handing over a cheque for the donation to schools Board of Management Chairman Isaac Muchiri at the school said the organisation was dedicated towards the elevation of children in marginalised areas through education.
Ngumbiri added that her organisation would continue supporting the expansion of the school in future and in other programmes aimed at elevating the school’s pupils and community members, noting that education was key to future prosperity of any individual or society.
“You can only help children fully by securing education for them, but half way if you help them get something to eat or wear. Education is the backbone of any society and that is what our organisation stands for. We will continue supporting this school in many ways that will benefit pupils and teachers so as it achieves better education standards,’’ said Ngumbiri.
The school’s management board chairman while thanking the organisation for its generosity said the funds will be used to build modern classrooms, toilets, offices and kitchen structures.
He added that the school that caters for over 300 children, mostly drawn from local poor families has not benefited from government funds for long due to negligence from local leaders and education stakeholders.
