A section of women from Athi River Sub-County will be prevented from entertaining guests during public functions in the area.
This was said by deputy county commissioner, Kodeck Makori, who accused the women of engaging in various illegal businesses.
"We will not allow women engaging in illegal businesses to be entertaining guests during any public function in the region," said Makori.
Makori who spoke to this writer in Athi River town on Wednesday said some of the women trade in illicit liquor while others were being used by land grabbers from the region to act as squatters to attract the attention of the government.
"I do not want to associate with such criminals. If I allow them to participate in public functions organised by the National Government, then it will seem I am glorifying illicit liquor," said Makori.
Makori said the women who mostly operate at the Kwa Mang'eli and Bondeni Slums within Athi River town have on several occasions claimed that they were squatters after being ejected from either private or public land by security agents.
