Kiambu Governor William Kabogo has revealed that the county government is planning to construct public toilets and upgrade houses in the slum regions within Thika.

The county boss said that the project will be implemented across Kiandutu, Kamae, Kiamburi and other slums across the county to enhance quality and improve living standards.

The governor, who was speaking in Kiandutu on Wednesday when he launched a countywide registration of people living in informal settlements, said the county has a great potential of improving its economic status.

He expressed his displeasure with leaders derailing development urging the residents to focus on fostering development instead of being influenced by leaders who he say are seek political mileage.

He lauded the Nyumba Kumi initiative for the transformation of Kiandutu slums, which he says, has for a long time experienced incidents of criminal activity and insecurity that has barred development.

Kabogo said that his government was keen on improving the lives of slum dwellers while he discouraged violence and encouraged peaceful dispute resolution.

He challenged local leaders to work on fulfilling their manifestos rather than engage in politics he says is aimed at plotting the downfall of his government.

“The time of election is not yet, right now make sure you work in fostering development instead of criticising the development efforts made in the county,” said Kabogo.
