Kiambu Farmers trained by the Kenya Horticultural Competitiveness Project (KHCP) have finally graduated in a colourful ceremony in Thika.
The training was in collaboration with USAID and follows four years of training for the farmers.
Their overall goal training was to increase the competitiveness of farming through enhancing productivity and to educate small scale farmers who have lost average of 40 per cent in their farming due to lack of skills.
The graduation was held at the Kenya Agricultural Research Institute (KARI) grounds where Dr Charles Nderitu, Director of Entomologist and Insect Nematologists was the guest of honour.
Dr Nderitu said that the project will encourage business approach to farmers, consolidation of market linkages and add value in farming section towards achieving vision 2030.
“The aim of this graduation is to add value in the farming sector and increase competitiveness of the Kenya Horticultural Industry and this project will enable farmers to practice farming skillfully,” said the director.
In 2013 QSM was able to donate modern equipment and launching of solar dryer technology which boost the farm processing in Murang’a.
