This is according to Barongo Oroo, a small scale farmer who said that farmers from Kisii south sub-county and Gusii region at large are preparing their lands for planting.

"After a successful harvest, it is now time to cultivate lands to plant before the August rains end. Any farmer who should not have completed cultivating his or here land by mid-September to plant he may be caught up with time since the rains may end anytime," he said.

"Though most farmers lack fertilisers to plant but that will not mean land should not be cultivated. Other crops such as sweet potatoes and bananas are planted without using fertilisers. It is high time for farmers to hasten their cultivation activities so that they plant in time," he added.

He urged other farmers from the county when they will be planting they use certified seeds for high yields during harvesting times.
