Mombasa county commissioner Evans Achoki said armed officers will also be on board on all ferries operating at Likoni to further ensure the safety of residents.

Mr Achoki has assured tourists, locals and other visitors who are expected to visit the region during the Easter holidays of security.

The decision was made after it occurred to them that most of both domestic and foreign tourists use the service that connects the island city of Mombasa and the mainland.

Speaking on Wednesday after meeting with Mombasa security heads in Mombasa town, Mr Achoki said security has been beefed up in the region to ensure all visitors to the Coastal city are safe.

Mr Achoki said they have identified areas that the security will be enhanced during celebrations adding that the government has deployed more officers to ensure security.

“The areas we have identified where we will ensure adequate security include beaches, night spots and concerts.”

“We want to ensure locals and visitors coming to Mombasa for the holidays that it is safe. Adequate security is in place,” he said.

The commissioner urged religious leaders and residents to work with the security agencies to ensure they are well protected.
