Outspoken Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho has alleged that there is a plot to assassinate him following chaos that marred Monday’s Migori rally.
In a statement sent to newsrooms on Monday, Joho claimed that the chaos were a protracted scheme to have him assassinated.
“The entire operation had all the markings of an assassination attempt which left one of our body guards shot and wounded in the leg wounded and the vehicle in which I was riding hit with bullets, at least two bullets,” he said.
“We believe that the events of today are part of a growing pattern of the politically motivated attacks and intolerance that we have witnessed in recent days even though until today, those attacks have mostly been verbal," he added.
Governor Joho has since called for a thorough probe into the incident, urging for political tolerance and respect ahead of the August polls.
He was scheduled to open an ODM Party office in Migori County before chaos erupted reportedly activated by Migori Governor Okoth Obado who is seeking re-election on an ODM Party ticket.
