Anglican Church Nyanza South Bishop, John Orina, and Ms Rachel Mutiga lambasted the social media for inflicting uncalled pain on grieving families.

Orina and Mutiga were speaking on Tuesday during a funeral service for two Kenyatta University Students who were among others killed in a grisly road accident on the Kisii-Kilgoris road.

Orina criticised the social media for posting photographs of accidents victims without giving due diligence to its effect on the families, relatives and friends, and asked the Government to prosecute careless drivers and safeguard the lives of citizens from rogue drivers.

“The way people are using social media is worrying and we need to change the trend as it affects the society,” added Orina.

The social media posted that Mutiga, mother of Vinnah and Valerie, third and first-year students had committed suicide, unable to bear the double loss.

Reacting to this rumour, Mutiga surprised the mourners when she said one of her daughters had predicted her own death while they were on holiday in April this year.

Mutiga forgave the originator of the suicide rumour, adding that she would also pray for the person to realise the error.
