This comes after WhatsApp users from Nyamira in the recent months managed to raise funds towards medication of Valarie Kerubo, an Ichuni girl’s student whose eyesight was failing and another incredible online harambee that saw a granny from Nyamaiya ward receive construction materials after her house was burnt by unknown people.

Prof Abaya Ondigi during a lecture on impacts of social media hailed the Nyamira residents for using it positively towards changing lives of people.

“The new media has been a platform which allows people to transfer information rapidly than before. It’s a big credit to innovation and I specifically want to thank Nyamira people for using it as a tool to change life,” he said.

“It’s a powerful tool that I saw giving eyesight to a hopeless young girl and recently I saw people raising funds for a homeless granny. That alone shows how advantageous social media can be in this era and date,” he added.

Residents of Nyamira managed to raise slightly over a million shillings towards medical bill of Valarie Kerubo and last week, they contributed iron sheets and other construction materials that even saw dignitaries like First Lady Naomi Nyagarama and Women Representative Alice Chae join forces on helping to solve the cases.
