Nyamira Governor John Nyagarama has yet again been subjected to social media ridicule after controversial remarks he made during the burial of his confident and political advisor Dominic Matoke on Wednesday at Magombo.

During his one hour speech, Nyagarama hailed his fallen advisor as an honest man and claimed that he was behind all the employments from the entire Kitutu Masaba region, a statement that has elicited heated debate among locals.

Kitutu Masaba region is believed to be a hostile region for the Nyagarama and he rarely visits the constituency which is represented by outspoken MP Timothy Bosire.

But the residents who took the governor to task at the social media platforms claimed that the remarks showed outright impunity in terms of recruitment by the county government.

“The governor has now confirmed that the skewed employment is real in the county government. People are not given jobs based on their merit rather influence by individuals. I am happy that he has admitted,” said Evans Kebaso.

“That Matoke employed people from Bogetutu is an indication that the law has always been violated in the county. County Public Service Board and County Assembly Service Board are used to rubber stamp boardroom decisions. Poor people have no chance in Nyamira,” added Clarkson Nyangena.

Another resident Mary Obaigwa called for intensive scrutiny on employment procedures in Nyamira County and called revocation of people who had been employed using backdoor means.

“The Governor should now let the law take its cause. Saying that someone was influencing recruitment in the government is a serious violation of the law and people ought to be prosecuted,” she said.

Efforts to get a response from the Governor to clarify his remarks were not fruitful since he could not pick calls nor respond to texts.
