Over 500 youth from Mavoko Constituency were given free bibles by the Bible Society of Kenya over the weekend in a bid to ensure a morally upright society.
Addressing the youth in Athi River town during the donation, Fleming Wasonga, the society's representative said there was need to empower the youth with the word of God.
Wasonga said it was the society's strategy to reach out to the youth across the nation claiming most of them never attended churches.
He argued those who were fond of engaging in other businesses on Sundays instead of going to church now had opportunities to read the bibles and be knowledgeable of the scripture at their comfort zones.
The representative said level of drug and substance abuse among youth and insecurity in the constituency would go down if the beneficiaries read and understood the bibles.
“We expect levels of insecurity and drug abuse to go down if the youth read and understand the scripture since they would live by the word,” said Wasonga.
He disclosed that the society had a plan to continue with the project to ensure that youth in all constituencies within the 47 counties across the country were reached.
