The groups said many of these cases still go unreported, with victims suffering in silence despite them being rampant in the county.

The groups were speaking during the County's launch of 16 days of activism against gender based violence at Diemo Primary School in Seme Sub-county.

The coordinator of Gender Based Violence Center at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH), Hesbon Simba said cases of sodomy are on the rise with many victims being small boys.

Simba said so far they have been offering many services to the victims and providing them with drugs that prevent them from contracting HIV.

He said the GVB center in Kisumu is currently engaging residents in community advocacy to impart knowledge and to urge victims to come out and report such incidences.

Simba said over 300 cases of GVB have been reported at the center with 95 per cent being women.

Felicia Mburu, the Programme Associate at the Coalition on Violence against Women (COVAW) said child defilement should be looked at keenly for fear of it getting out of control.

Mburu said many boys or young adults are not reporting such cases for fear of being discriminated or labeled as homosexuals.

She said the culture of Western region residents does not allow men to come out openly especially on issues that prick their ego.
