Society has been urged to take its role in helping underprivileged to make them part and parcel of society.
According to prominent Nakuru businessman John Njoroge, society has abandoned its role in helping the less fortune members of society.
Speaking today at Bondeni Estate, Nakuru Town during handing over of food stuff to physically challenged persons, Njoroge said that there is need for Kenyans to express humility to underprivileged.
“We have a duty to help those who are less fortune,” said Njoroge.
Njoroge noted that the gap between the rich and the poor is widening and called the society to rectify the situation to alleviate suffering of the poor.
“Financially-able persons should share their wealth with physically challenged persons as a sign of humility,” said Njoroge.
During the occasion several physically and mentally challenged persons received assistive devices and food stuff.
Njoroge asked parents with physically challenged children to take them to school to acquire skills to prove that disability is not inability.
“There is no need of hiding a physically challenged child for fear of being stigmatized. Such children should be taken to school to learn,” said Njoroge.
He also urged the national government to increase its budgetary allocation to persons with severe disabilities to ensure they enjoy life like other members of society.
“The amount allocated for persons with disabilities is too little to cope with the challenges affecting them,” said Njoroge.
Njoroge also challenged the society to identify the needs and aspirations of physically challenged persons to ensure they achieve their dreams.
