Former Kenya Premier League (KPL) champions Sofapaka has axed their midfielder Jonathan Mugabi.

Mugubi joined the club from Uganda's Soana FC last year and has played in almost all the matches for the side last season.

The club said he will be replaced by another yet-to-be-named foreign player.

"We are bringing in another foreigner from Burundi into the team and after consultations, the team decided to release him (Mugabi)," said Sofapaka coach Sam Ssimbwa.

"It's a decision arrived at after consultation. It's in the best interest of the player and the team," he added.

The remaining foreigners at Batoto ba Mungu are custodian Mathias Kigonya, Rodgers Aloro, Unar Kasumba and Ali Feni.
