Amid speculations of betting firms closing their club sponsorships in the country, clubs went into panic mode fearing to lose their sponsors.

Betting firm Betika is however set to review its Sh50 million-per-annum sponsorship deal they entered into with Kenyan Premier League side Sofapaka.

This comes following a 35 percent tax the government imposed on all betting firms.

Betika's marketing manager Patricia Njeri said Betika has opted not to withdraw its sponsorship but instead reduce it to a level they can manage.

“The 35 percent tax will certainly affect our bottom line but rather than pull out completely from sponsoring Sofapaka, we have opted to review the sponsorship and negotiations are currently going on to that effect,” she said.

“The team did very well last season with our support and we therefore do not want to completely withdraw sponsorship.”
