Sofapaka began their 2017 Kenya Premier League (KPL) campaign with a 3-1 startling win over bogey Western Stima in a Sunday mathc played at Moi Stadium, Kisumu.

Batoto ba Mungu earned their first goal in the 22nd minute through midfield maestro Charles Okwemba before Humphrey Okoti stung with the second in the 40th minute.

However, Fredrick Nyarombo pulled back one for Western Stima with three minutes left before heading to the breather.

On resumption, things got worse for the hosts as Sofapaka's Ezekiel Okare connected well in the 70th minute to drive them to 3-1, a score that stood to the final whistle.

With a minute left to the final whistle, Stima were reduced to ten men after custodian Samuel Odhiambo saved Okwemba’s shot outside his area.

“We lost our last match because of luck but today my players made every chance count because we played as a unit,” Sofapaka coach Sam Ssimbwa after the match.

Elsewhere, Wycliffe Ochomo converted from the spot in extra time to give Homeboyz maximum points over former club Muhoroni in a match played at  the Mumias Sugar Sports Complex on Sunday.

The match ended 1-0.
