According to them, a group of anonymous people have been vandalising their property besides inflicting harm to those who do not comply with their directives.

This has led to a public outcry with majority of them shifting the blame to police who have allegedly failed to apprehend the culprits.

“The area is never secure as it used to be. We are living with immense fear not knowing what will happen next. They are executing their crimes perfectly without even the intervention of the police to save victims,” said Richard Nyakundi, shopkeeper.

Mrs Gladys Osoro said the gang was asking up Sh200,000 depending on one’s economic ability with those failing to comply beaten and left to die.

“I once encountered them when leaving Daraja Mbili market a week ago. They tortured me and threatened to rape me but I managed to secure my freedom after paying Sh15,000,” she recalled.

They asked the police to beef up security in the region and bring culprits before a court of law for prosecution.

Area OCPD Tom Mutisya on Tuesday said police have been deployed in the region for 24 hours surveillance and asked those with useful information to record a statement with the police.

“I think the issue has been adequately addressed. We have increased the number of our officers there and I call upon those with useful information to report for an expeditious action,” he said.
