County chief officer in charge of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Cooperative development Samwel Mogeni said that the county government is working in collaboration with the Kisii University to provide the farmers with the solar driers which will dry vegetables, bananas and other types of food harvested.

Speaking in his office, Mogeni said that the ministry has taken measures to vaccinate animals along the common border of Bomet, Narok, Migori and Nyamira counties to guard against food and mouth diseases which have been reported.

Mogeni said that the ministry was encouraging farmers to improve their farming through green houses because they have scientifically been proved to be the way to go because of the scarcity of land, hail stones and diseases which have become so costly.

The chief officer admitted that a number of projects which have been given to the farmers have collapsed because of poor husbandry and advised them to take great care because whatever they are given is an incentive.

He added that the ministries will soon distribute superior sweet bananas to the farmers which were resistant to diseases and can grow in both altitudes in lower and upper areas.

Mogeni revealed that the ministry has introduced a project for hens in all secondary schools within the county so that they can expose young people to agriculture because they are contributing to food insecurity because they do not like farming.

Mogeni said that the county government has come up with E-Farming methods of agriculture with new innovating ways for the farmers so that they can have enough food.

He also said that the ministry was improving the artificial insemination (AI) by renovating all clinics for surgery and treatment of animals where prices will be subsides to increase the access of products.

He also added that the ministry was up scaling on fish farming where the farmers will be given fingerlings and berets to intensify their production.
