The Kenya National of Union of Teachers (Knut) Thika branch Secretary General Joe Mungai has faulted the opposition for the rally held at Uhuru Park on Wednesday.

He criticised the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (Cord) for the Uhuru Park rally which he says was politicised and used to further the opposition's agenda in the name of teachers.

Speaking to journalists in Thika town on Thursday, Mungai said that Cord is politicising the teachers' strike and asked them to keep off teachers' matters.

"Our fight started a long time ago and we do not want politicians in teachers' affairs. We are fighting for teachers' rights while they've a different agenda," said Mungai.

He also dismissed Cord's call to have Kenyans contribute to the 'solidarity account' in support of teachers terming it as an insult to teachers.

"How much can be raised using the account? The opposition must stop playing around with serious matters to gain political mileage," he said.

Mungai also distanced teachers from controversial utterances during the rally saying that teachers respected those in authority and the offices they hold.
