Muslim clerics in Garissa town have called upon President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto to resolve increased cases of mysterious murders in the region ahead of the next general polls.
Led by Sheikh Hussein Mahat, the clerics on Thursday said that state security agents have done little in regard to the rampant cases of murders being witnessed in the town.
Sheikh Hussein said that at least 20 people have been killed in Garissa town under unclear circumstances but the government has not addressed the matter as expected.
He also noted that the recent murder of three youths at a hotel in Garissa has led to the growth of mysterious deaths being witnessed in this part of the nation.
The clerics further said that it is clear the heinous acts are being undertaken by the same people because of the resemblance. The clerics acknowledged the efforts of security officers to end the deaths but asked them to pull up their socks.
“We acknowledge the security officers have helped restore sanity in the once-troubled town, but the fact that these murders haven’t been resolved means the police have their work cut out for them,” he said, as quoted by the Star.
The complaints of the clerics come after a watch man and two waiters were attacked by unknown persons who are said to have used blunt objects to hit their heads.
