They said their businesses were under threat following vandalism by suspected Gusii Institute Students in which most of them lost items worth thousands of shillings.

They asked the government to work in speed and respond to their concerns by giving large businesses first priority before extending the same to medium scale business owners.

“We are working in great fear because this threat is real. About two weeks ago, a number of us lost several items following riots by GIT and that is why we do not want to take chances. They are targeting us and something should be done urgently,” said Umuro Hussein.

“We want security forces to be deployed in large businesses urgently and later to Medium scale enterprises. The community hasn’t wronged anyone the fore, our interest must be safeguarded,” added Idriss Shide.

However, their concerns were dismissed by OCPD Tom Mutisya who told Hivisasa.com that the town was secure for all business people regardless of their background or ethnicity.

“I have never thought of locals vandalizing property of innocent people. What happened two weeks ago should not be interpreted negatively? All business people are safe in the town and the police will arrest whoever who may be caught vandalizing business premises regardless of who owns it,” he said.
