A section of Somali elders have said they will block the re-election of the incumbent Garissa Township Aden Duale in the forthcoming elections.
The elders say they will only support Duale if he stands to vie at the Balambala constituency, which is underdeveloped.
However, Lobby chairperson Muhidin Ibrahim has said they will never allow the Abduwaq Council of Elders to push the vocal Duale to shift into Balambala political space.
Speaking in Garissa over the weekend, Muhudin disclosed that Duale shifting to Abdikadir Aden's constituency would hurt development in Garissa town, which is at the heart of the regional economy.
"We will reject any attempts to force Duale out of Garissa constituency. The council of elders should leave Duale and let him defend his current position at his Garissa Township," said Muhidin.
In recent times, the Abduwak council of elders have been endorsing political aspirants for various elective posts, with Duale receiving double endorsement with a section endorsing him for Balambala legislative post.
