A young Somali man has hit the headlines after marrying two women on the same night.

According to BBC, the man, who was later identified as Bashir Mohamed said he courted the two for a period of 8 months before he decided to settle down with them. 

The women were identified as Iqra and Nimo, he also said that they two had met on several occasions and interacted at different levels before he decided to walk down the aisle.

"I used to bring them together to socialise with me at my home," he told BBC Somali.

"I used to say openly to both of them that I love them. They were satisfied," he added. 

He also said that he decided to marry both of them because he wants as many children as possible. 

He further said that he will encourage men to do the same, adding that he is deeply in love with both of them"I will encourage other men to do it if they can afford it," Mr Mohamed said.

The news comes months after National Majority Leader Aden Duale asked Somali to embrace polygamy for political supremacy.
