Sheikh’s visit to Kenya on Monday comes just weeks after the Kenyan government announced its plans to close down Dadaab by November this year.

The camp has been a host to thousands of refugees, mainly from Somalia and Sudan who fled from civil wars in their countries.

The Somalia's head of state is expected to meet local leaders from the North Eastern region by Governor Nathif Jama of Garissa and MPs who have already landed at the Dadaab airstrip ahead of his arrival.

Interior Cabinet Secretary, Joseph Nkaissery and a number of high-ranking personnel from the ministry have also arrived in Dadaab to commence talks with the president.

The republic of Somalia has requested Kenya to continue hosting the refugees as the war-torn country is still facing security threats from Al-Shabaab.
