A section of the Somali community living in Mombasa has told the National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale to refrain from engaging in Mombasa county politics.
Led by the community's Chairman, Abdulrahman Yussuf, they said that Duale cannot direct the community on whom they should support and elect during August 2017 elections.
"The community is focused on trying to unite the 10- sub-clan but he is busy interfering. Some people he prefers will actually not get the community's votes," he said.
Duale has been accused of attacking Governor Hassan Joho and other ODM leaders in his political tour of the Coast region, and said that politician Abdi Daib of Jubilee will give Changamwe residents excellent representation if elected.
However, Yussuf insists that if Daib will move to ODM, he will be given the post of Nominated MP by governor Joho.
"Joho, being the ODM Deputy Party Leader and who lends us his ears, is in the right position to give Daib the Nominated MP slot in the event he decamps from Jubilee," he said.
Duale said that Joho should not be re-elected due to his poor leadership and neglecting the Somali community in Mombasa County, claims that Yussuf have termed as unfounded, stating that they benefited immensely under the leadership of Hassan Joho.
"We were given two senior posts at the government, one being the executive slot. County Administrator Idris Abdulrahman is one of us. More than 150 youths from our community have been employed across various department," he said.
