A sombre mood engulfed Mitua girls’ secondary school in Tongaren Bungoma County after a KCSE candidate collapsed and died Tuesday morning.

The girl was rushed to Mt Elgon hospital in Kitale where she was pronounced dead.

"The 18-year-old girl had done her Monday exams well despite complaining of feeling unwell," Bungoma sub-county education officer William Kamuguna told Citizen TV.

“The girl has been ill for some time and is believed she died of a heart attack, " he added.

The incident left other students shocked but Kamuguna urged them to remain strong.

“The death of your colleague will affect you but I want to urge you to put your focus on the remaining papers," he said.
