[Photo|Ndungu Nyoro]Sombre mood has engulfed residents in Nyeri county following their governor's death.The Jubilee governor Wahome Gakur passed on at Thika Level 5 Hospital where he was rushed for emergency treatment following a grisly road accident at Kabati Makenji area on the Thika-Murang'a highway on Tuesday morning.Gakuru succumbed to his injuries on arrival at the facility as medics prepared to airlift him to Nairobi for specialised care.Confirming the death Murang'a County Commissioner John Elung'ata said Kabati area was a black spot and that many motorists lose control whenever it rains.He had been rushed to hospital alongside his driver after the Mercedes-Benz they were traveling in crashed into an opening of a guard rail at the roadside and drove through it for several metres damaging the car.Reports indicate the driver was pulled out of the vehicle with crushed legs.The governor was headed to Nairobi for a talk show. The body has been taken to Lee Funeral Home.He becomes the second elected governor to die in office after his predecessor Nderitu Gachagua who died in February this year following a long illness.The late Gachagua became the first Nyeri governor after he was elected in 2013, while Gakua was elected in August 8 general election.
