Lobbying for cabinet posts in President Kenyatta’s cabinet has intensified, two days after he officially assumed office.
Some individuals are now approaching close relatives of the president and the deputy president, seeking considerations.
NARC Kenya Party leader Martha Karua, has been touted to join the cabinet after she lost the Kirinyaga gubernatorial race.
She has however indicated that she is not interested in the post.
“I can work with movement but not as an insider in the government. I have been in the cabinet, I have no wish to return to the cabinet as it is now, and I have not been offered,” she said.
“I am not looking forward to being a member of the cabinet at the national level, my interested is at the county level,” she added.
The new cabinet is said to be having more politicians than the current one, which has more technocrats.
With the swearing in now over, the attention has shifted to ensuring the Jubilee government delivers on their promises.
The cabinet is expected to be expanded to the constitution maximum of 22 so that the president can accommodate political appointments.
Some of those touted to join the movement include former MPs, Paul Otwoma, Ababu Namwamba, and James Rege, former governors David Nkedianye, Peter Munya, former Senators David Musila and Hassan Omar.
It waits to be seen how President Kenyatta balances his cabinet, with many faces hoping for a call-up to the ministry table.
