The ministry of education under the leadership of CS Fred Matiang’i will have a busy week, with schools expected to resume learning today, Tuesday.

The government plans to roll out new learning programmes, which are intended to streamline the sector in the country.

Among the programmes the government intends on rolling out include; a new curriculum, the opening of day wings in selected boarding schools, the mass transfer of school heads and other teachers, and the rolling out of the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) policy for secondary school students.

Most of the programmes have been criticized by education stakeholders, who have called for more inclusion in decision-making processes.

The ministry also intends to supply free textbooks to students, even though the plan seems far from perfect with parents flocking bookshops to get books as directed by schools.

Students have enjoyed the longest ever break in the country; a two and half week break, which was occasioned by the longer-than-expected electioneering period.

With KNEC in conjunction with the ministry of education releasing KCSE results early than usual, form one students are expected to join with the rest of the students as they begin their life in secondary learning.
