An activist and former MP aspirant has called on the police to take responsibility over an incident in which cops mistakenly shot dead the son to a Nairobi based soccer coach.
Boniface Mwangi who unsuccessfully vied for the Starehe MP seat during the August 8 general elections said on Saturday that the shooting incident happened on Friday along Kangundo Road.
According to Mwangi, the boy identified as Arnold Okong'o was shot after being mistaken to be the son of a former (deceased) criminal who is on the list of the most wanted people in Kenya.
Okong'o was shot at close range and died on the spot.
"Police shot dead a 17-year-old Arnold Okong'o aka Randy," Mwangi said as he reported the incident o Twitter.
"They thought he was the late Shimoli's son, Leone, a most wanted criminal. The slain boy is the son to Jericho All Stars' Football Club coach, Thomas Okong'o. His father is crying for justice. Shimoli Jnr still at large."
But after the shooting police reported that they had gunned down Shimoli Jnr.
Buru Buru DCI boss Jeremiah Ikiao said on Friday the teenager was gunned down after a long pursuit.
Police are yet to respond to claims that they killed the wrong person.
