13,000 City Hall employees are set to start receiving their July salaries.

This follows a meeting between governor elect Mike Sonko and the workers.

"I promised that the said salaries shall be paid within the next 48 hours," he said.

The meeting was attended by chief county Finance officer Lukas Gatimu.

Union branch secretary Boniface Waweru said they have been informed the National Treasury has released the money which stands at Sh1.3 billion.

"We were told the controller of budget had not approved the disbursement of the money, that is what caused the delay," he said.

“But we are now told the money has been approved and by evening today, we should start receiving it,” Waweru added.
