Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko has accused a section Jubilee leaders of sabotaging him in a bid to have him step down for Peter Kenneth in the gubernatorial race.
Mr Sonko, who was campaigning in Nairobi’s Eastlands area on Monday, said that since declaring his gubernatorial bid, some party members have been sidelining him in favour of his opponent.
“I have been a staunch party member and a defender of President Uhuru Kenyatta especially when he had a case at the International Criminal Court, but the moment I declared interest in the governor’s post, some people felt I should not be supported,” Sonko said.
He accused Nairobi Jubilee MPs of failing to support him instead of opting for Kenneth’s camp.
“Eleven MPs in Nairobi have stopped supporting me,” said Mr Sonko.
The Sonko team is campaigning for the nomination of Johnson Sakaja for the Senate post and Karen Nyamu for the woman rep seat.
Sonko is set to face off with Peter Keneth on Wednesday during the Jubilee nominations.
