Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko has finally admitted on participating in a transaction that has since been described as fraudulent and illegal.
Appearing at a Mombasa court on Wednesday, Sonko admitted before Chief Magistrate Julius Nang'ea that he had been involved in a deal where a Mombasa-based businessman sold a Sh29 million piece of land that did not belong to him (businessman).
Sonko testified that he was acting as a sales agent in which he received a total of Sh870 000 for his services in 1999 before he became a Makadara legislator.
"I only provided agency services and after striking the deal, Shah offered me Sh870 000 as part of my commission for the good work I had done,” stated Sonko.
During the court proceedings, the Senator firmly defended himself testifying that he also operated a company specialising in real estates and had innocently helped one of his popular clients.
Sonko had been summoned to make his testimony in the case after the prosecution stated he was among the people involved in the land sale.
