Nairobi governor Mike Sonko has urged city residents to be patient as he ponders on the next course of action after his deputy Polycarp Igathe resigned, saying that service delivery at City Hall will not be impeded.
Igathe resigned on Friday last week citing lack of trust from the governor, which he said prevented him from seriously serving the electorate.
Speaking to the media in Mombasa on Monday, Sonko declined to comment on what he intends to do after Igathe’s departure saying that he will have to consult the electorate and other leaders.
“I don’t want to comment on that at the moment because I have to consult the electorate, to consult the MCA’s because we have almost 120 of them in Nairobi, so we need to consult everyone up to our party leadership,” Sonko said as quoted on Citizen TV.
In addition the Nairobi Chief said that the issue of the top leadership in the county is for everyone and not only Jubilee and therefore there is a lot that needs to be done among leaders.
“I am telling Nairobi residents to have faith in us that we will do our jobs. Nairobi is not a county like these others; we have a population of five million in the day and four million at night. We need to plan and work,” Sonko further said.
