Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has backed the arrest last weekend of DJs in various clubs in the city who were claimed to be promoting "noise pollution".
The former Makadara MP urged DJs to respect the hustle of schoolchildren and hardworking Nairobians who need to rest during the night.
He asked DJs who play music in clubs near residential areas to avoid violating rights of people to enjoy their private lives, especially in residential areas.
"The issue of arrest and harassment of DJs has come to my attention. I appreciate youths trying to make a living. However, DJs especially in the residential areas, should not violate the rights of Nairobians to a good working and living environment," Sonko said on Wednesday in a video posted on his official Facebook page.
"School going children and hard working Nairobi residents should be allowed to have peaceful nights so as to have productive days."
"In many cases bar owners and managers are never in the scene during operations that is why at some point our DJs are held responsible because they are the operators of the music machines. Also note that, we receive complains from residents before we act."
The flamboyant governor said he will strive, just as he promised during his inaugural speech to ensure Nairobi residents live better lives.
