Barely a week after taking over office, Nairobi governor Mike Sonko has moved to suspend members of the Nairobi Water and Sewerage Company board over a strike by workers.
The workers downed their tools a week ago after the board refused to renew the contracts of Managing Director Philip Gichuki, Finance Director Johnson Randu, Commercial Director Stephen Mbugua and Director Human Resource Rosemary Kijana over non-performance.
Speaking after meeting the workers at Kampala offices, Sonko said they opted to stop the board from transacting business after listening to grievances of union members.
“I will do an official communication to the board stopping them from transacting any business until all the grievances are heard and auditing is done,” said the governor.
