A section of Kisii and Nyamira residents now wants Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko to intervene and have embattled businessman Don Bosco Gichana rescued from a Tanzanian jail.
For five years now, Gichana has been languishing in Arusha jail despite prosecution failing to prove money laundering and fraud charges.
Led by Patrick Matoke, the team pushing for Gichana's release demanded that Sonko intervenes as they thronged into the streets of Kisii Town to air their grievances.
"Sonko was at some time in his life rescued by Gichana from Shimo La Tewa. He has gone silent despite being aware of the plight," he said.
Matoke further said: "We plead with him to speak about this matter. The accused has never been prosecuted. There is no evidence. This is serious violation of human rights."
Early this month, nominated senator Millicent Omanga, in her Facebook page, hailed Sonko for allegedly securing Bosco's freedom.
Later on, after immense criticism, she would claim that the governor had petitioned East African Legislative Assembly over the matter.
