There was drama in Kathiani, Machakos County on Friday after Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko disrupted proceedings during the burial of former Kathiani MP Wavinya Ndeti's husband.
Sonko who had been tasked to read President Uhuru Kenyatta's speech caused a melee after he charged towards the day's master of ceremonies demanding why he wanted to cut short his speech.
The MC had intervened as Sonko gave an unwinding off-the-cuff talk of how he had taken over control of the country because of the absence of President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto.
"Rais Uhuru is in Togo, Deputy President William Ruto is in France. I am number three in command politically influence-wise and socially," he is heard saying in a video posted on Facebook on Friday.
"I am now the acting president of the republic of Kenya."
Before he continues, the MC is seen walking towards him reminding the flamboyant politician to cut short his speech.
"Senator Sonko, please wind up," the MC is heard saying.
The seemingly angered Sonko is then seen charging towards the MC and tries to throw a punch warning him not to switch off his microphone.
In the commotion, Wavinya Ndeti intervenes shielding the Senator from the MC and other people who charge towards him.
Sonko is thereafter heard accusing the MC of being biased.
"When Raila was talking, no one disrupted him," he shouts.
An unidentified man thereafter intervenes and asks mourners to keep calm to allow him (Sonko) read the president's speech.
The agitated Sonko however, is again heard throwing insults at people.
"Hapana shika mimi. Takataka nyinyi, gasia nyinyi. Msituletee, kwendeni kabisa huko. Kwenda kabisa. Kwenda kabisa," he shouts in Swahili.
Loosely translated: "You are garbage, garbage. Don't dare us, get out of here. Get out. Get out."
Before he starts reading the president's speech, ODM leader Raila Odinga and a section of leaders who accompanied him to the ceremony is seen leaving.
