Nairobi governor Mike Sonko has intensified his war on garbage in the city by conducting night cleaning exercises.

Sonko started the programme by cleaning up parts of Majengo and Pumwani that have grappled with garbage for a long time.

Taking to his Facebook page during the operation, the governor highlighted a number of strategies his government was putting in place to see the garbage menace fully combated in Nairobi.

"Leo hakuna kulala (Today there is no sleeping). Ongoing cleanup, Majengo and Pumwani. My county government is going to put in place measures for enhanced Public-Private-Partnerships (PPP), benchmark on best practices of appropriate technologies, undertake periodic clean-up activities within 17 constituencies," he posted.

"We will also provide equipment for waste segregation and transport systems, zone the waste operational areas, we will have continuous management of activities/facilities to ensure all the waste is transported to the designated waste disposal sites in a timely manner," he added.
