The accused is reported to have used the Mike Sonko Foundation to solicit for funds without the senator's awareness.

Sonko maintained that never at any time did he post any message on his timeline to demand funds from innocent Kenyans.

Gitau had filed a request at the chief justice's office that the case be started afresh after his sentiments that he was no longer confident with the deals of the judges in the lower court.

Sonko told the court that the accused is a dangerous conman and an experienced imposter who used his identity to lure well wishers and the unsuspecting public with the intention of fleecing funds to satisfy his monetary greed. Gitau has since insisted that he did not misuse the communication and social forum to impersonate the senator. His case is to be handled by Joseph Karanja, a senior principal magistrate but it is now awaiting directions from the office of the chief justice.

It is alleged the accused had received donations from over 3000 people who generously donated to the impostor unsuspectingly. The prosecution testified to the court that Gitau had posted a message that read, “Today morning, I issued a number of cheques valued sh6.2 million to Kenyan citizens who had willingly sent sh1, 000 to my M-Pesa number 0713004255. Please keep on donating as I am still to offer millions.’’

Two other pages bearing the names Wanjiku Voice of Kenya and Sonko National Counties are under investigations to uncover the forces behind them.
