Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko now wants the court to dismiss an election petition filed challenging his election during the August 8 polls.

The petition was filed by Japheth Muroko.

According to Sonko, he was validly elected denying allegations that some unregistered people voted in the county governor election.

He wants the court to disallow an order on scrutiny of ballot boxes and the Kenya Integrated Elections Management System (Kiems) kits saying there is no basis for the order.

On his part, Muroko claims that Nairobi governor elections were done contrary to the provisions of the constitution.

He argues that agents of former governor Evans Kidero were either completely denied access to the stations or were given limited access to specific stations, which allowed massive irregularities that cost Kidero his seat.

Kidero has made an application to court seeking to be enjoined as an interested party to the petition.
