Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has come out to defend his recent ban of matatus in the city's Central Business District.

Speaking through his facebook account on Sunday, the governor asked Nairobians to focus on the final outcome of the policy rather than criticise its method of implementation.

"Let's stop politicising the decongestion in Nairobi. This is just a pilot project and all school going children and people going to work will be dropped in the CBD without affecting the flow of traffic," he said.

Sonko said that his government will ensure there are no cases of double parking,  obstruction, unnecessary U-turns, blocking of business premises as a temporary measure as they seek permanent solutions.

Among the long term permanent solutions to the traffic issue will be speedy construction of storeyed parkings as well as expansion of roads to create special lanes of buses.

"... introduction of new circular routes from Eastlands,Southlands, Westlands, Thika road to important areas like KNH, Karen, SGR station in Syokimau and Mlolongo without entering the CBD," he said.
