Outspoken Borabu MP Ben Momanyi may be compelled to pay City Hall Sh58 million, which is part of Sh60 million that he was paid in 2015 as part of legal fee.
Governor Mike Sonko has since moved to court to stop payment owed by his government amounting up to Sh60 billion besides seeking other legal methods to recover money fraudulently paid.
In a case filed by Kiambu governor Ferdinand Waititu in 2012 over eviction of over 6,000 families from Shauri Moyo, Momanyi was part of the legal team that represented the defunct City Hall.
Initially, records show, Momanyi had demanded payment of Sh1.1 billion on grounds that it was premised on damages amounting up to Sh25 billion.
But an agreement between Momanyi's law firm saw the amount reduced to Sh800 million, which the county government agreed to pay.
As part of goodwill to honour the deal, the county government paid Momanyi Sh60 million only to change psoition later by challenging the fee.
However, a review by Deputy Registrar E. W Mburu, so the amount further slashed to Sh1.3 million thus justifying Sonko's latest move to recover the excess amount of money paid.
Last year, Momanyi had dismissed the claims of fraud, insisting that he was ready to defend his payment in High Court. The latest decision by Sonko is likely to culminate into tough legal battles at least based on Momanyi's protest.
