Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga's grand coalition government adviser Miguna Miguna has claimed Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko did not complete high school studies.
Miguna said Nairobians will have to blame themselves if they elected Sonko as governor during the August general election.
He said Sonko, as Senator, has failed to demonstrate his capacity to improve the lives of Nairobi residents and can not be entrusted with the coveted gubernatorial post.
“Sonko did not finish high school,” he said in a Monday interview.
“If you told him to spell the word governor, he would not.”
Sonko is among aspirants who have declared interest for Nairobi governor position and has of recent been traversing the city marketing his candidature.
He is, however, facing an uphill task to fly the Jubilee Party's flag following the entry of former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth into the race.
Jubilee Party has also tasked him to clear his name after complaints arose that he had fronted inauthentic documents for clearance.
The last time he made a public appearance campaigning was on Monday when he toured Karen.
On March 30, he campaigned in Kawinda besides visiting Huruma, Pangani and Ngara.
But despite his spirited efforts in the campaigns, he is being investigated by the Ministry of Education over questionable academic backgrounds.
Jubilee Party Secretary General Raphael Tuju has also zeroed down on him alongside Starehe MP Maina Kamanda over the fake academic papers claims.
“For people who have written to us raising concerns about certain aspirant they feel their papers are not straight, we have written to those specific people about these allegations to get their responses,” Tuju said on Monday.
“We know sometimes this could be sabotage but we will investigate the cases.”
Sonko has been at the limelight since 2015 over claims he holds a fake high school certificate which he used while enrolling for university studies.
He, however, insists that he completed high school and qualified to join university.
Although he delayed to enroll for his degree course, he says he, on merit, secured admission to pursue studies in Business Administration at the Kenya Methodist University where he graduated in July 2015.
He says the fake academic certificates rumours leveled against him are maneuvers by his political opponents meant to bar him from vying for the Nairobi governor position.
Sonko says delaying to enroll for a degree course does not mean one failed in high school.
“I acquired wealth when I was a teenager and despised education which was a wrong decision,” he said during his graduation ceremony in 2015.
“I have realised to be a true leader, education is a prerequisite. Without education, leadership will be very difficult.”
If the Education ministry and Jubilee Party clear him he will face off with Kenneth during the Jubilee Party primaries.
The winner will contest against Governor Evans Kidero (ODM) and Miguna Miguna who will run as an independent candidate.
Said Miguna during the interview: “I am an incorruptible lawyer with three degrees and it's only me who can liberate Nairobi from the chains of corruption and poor management.”
“Once I am governor, there will be no cartels. I will deal with them.”
Sonko since 2013 has had a frosty relationship with Kidero.
