[Photo/ Kenyans.co.ke]The race for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat is getting murkier by the day, after Senator Mike Sonko refused to step down for Peter Kenneth despite being offered a lucrative Cabinet Secretary post if Jubilee wins the August 8 general election. The flamboyant senator has stuck to his guns and is aiming for the Jubilee Party ticket o Friday primaries.Sources close to the presidency intimated to the Star that a new position had been offered to Sonko to be the Cabinet Secretary for Nairobi Metropolitan Region, but the senator rejected the offer.Mike Sonko (left) and Peter Kenneth (right)."We have given up on Sonko. We wanted him to back Kenneth and we even offered him many other options, but he has rejected all of them," said the source."The senator has insisted he wants to be governor. Let Jubilee people decide who between the two should be the candidate," said an aide to DP Ruto.It has been the desire of President Uhuru Kenyatta that Nairobi's top job be taken from ODM.According to sources, Uhuru was willing to elevate  Nairobi Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (Namata) into a ministry so that it can be handed to Sonko.Jubilee fears that if Sonko and Kenneth contest for the governor post, it will be very easy for Governor Evans Kidero of ODM to win.
